Minimalist Lifestyle: Clothing

How did you do on decluttering your clothing? I wrote a minimalist mindset post last week to give you some ideas on where to start.

I was not able to declutter as much as I wanted, mainly because I’m currently 7 1/2 months pregnant. I don’t know what will fit me, or what I will wear this summer. So here’s what I did:

Pairing down your wardrobe while pregnant

1) Get rid of clothes that are too small. I mean really small. I’ve been holding onto some clothes that didn’t even fit me between the last pregnancy and this one.

2) Get rid of clothes that you don’t love. Even if you can’t currently try an item of clothing on (because you are pregnant,

Having a minimalist wardrobe

I want to keep only the clothes that I love and wear. Right? Minimalism is living with what you need and what you love.

The steps to getting more clothes that I actually wear is:

1. Declutter my clothes. Be ruthless and get rid of everything that doesn’t fit or doesn’t look awesome on me. I only want to keep what I actually love!

2. Hanger trick. Put all the hanging clothes on hangers backwards and once I wear it, turn the hanger around the right way. That way I’ll REALLY know what I’m not wearing.

3. Declutter again. After a season or two has gone by, I’ll look at my clothes and again evaluate. This time I’ll get rid

Minimalist Lifestyle: Kitchen

IMG_20150109_212728

As you may or may not know, we moved into a 3-bedroom townhome last weekend. It’s SO nice to have extra space in the living room, basement, and kitchen. However, that did NOT translate to having more cabinet space – just more floor space. I’m not saying I have a tiny kitchen. It’s a nice size, it’s just hard to fit everything you want into a kitchen (especially when you cook from scratch often). My mom helped me unpack kitchen items the day before we moved all the furniture in. Which was so nice – EXCEPT the day we moved in we found 7 more boxes labeled kitchen. Ahh!

So much stuff!!

I knew a LOT had to go.

Here is a picture of the

Hello everyone!! Your assignment for the weekend is to declutter your kitchen! Are you overwhelmed and don’t know where to start? Well, I hope to help!!

How to Get Started

Wednesday I gave you a list of 20 + things you can get rid of without even missing. This is a great place to start. Think about these kitchen items. Do you have too many:

glasses/mugs (even if they are sentimental?) tupperware/containers pots and pans vases knives ladles wooden spoons/utensils pitchers measuring spoons and cups wine glasses single purpose appliances (ice cream maker, juicers, deep fryers, etc.) rarely used items (we are getting rid of our George Foreman grill)

After you have though through these items and pulled them out, then go through

How to Create a Minimalist Home

Monday I mentioned 5 ways you could get started living a minimalist lifestyle. Did you start googling minimalism after my post? There are a lot of great articles out there and examples of people you have really cut back on stuff in their life.

One example is Joshua and Ryan who write at The Minimalists. They packed everything up and started on their journey to minimalism with that method. They also have an excellent Start Here page to check out!

If you want to just knock out a bunch of stuff at once, check out Tico and Tina’s blog Make Room for Greatness. They have a great list of 20 + Things you can get

Guide to living a minimalist lifestyle in 2015

Minimalism

If you are anything like me, you are feeling the urge to purge your home of everything extra and simplify your life! Wouldn’t you love to have less clutter and less stress? I LOVE the season of decluttering so much, because I love the stress it removes in my family’s life!!

I JUST – as in today just – moved into a new home. It is slightly bigger than the last, but since the configuration of everything is different, I’m having trouble finding a space for everything. I didn’t really realize how much stuff we have until we moved today. I know, I know – I DID just declutter the whole house in October, but it’s time again. I feel like

May: Set up a Routine

Chore Checklist Widget

Step 1: Declutter the whole house

So, last month our community hosted a neighborhood garage sale and it was a GREAT excuse and created a limited time table for us to quickly go through the house and declutter. It was awesome!! However, we did not have too much time to reorganize or find places for everything. PLUS last week we had a slight water leak in our basement and so now that part of our storage area is chaotic.

Step 2: Set up a Routine

I’ve decided to go all digital. I’ve tried various apps, but for this time I’ve decided to go with Chore Checklist. I’ve never used it before, but I’ve set everything up and I think it’s

Simple Living: On the fridge

after fridge

This month and next I’m working through the 25 Days of Working Towards Simple Living series. You can read everything I’m posting in this series under the tab Simplify. I absolutely LOVED Lorilee’s book Simple Living and took a lot away from it! I would suggest you check it out!

Day 5: On the Fridge

This was a much simpler task I was able to accomplish this week. After clearing off all the surfaces on my kitchen, I was motivated to also clear off the fridge. It has a TON of stuff on it and usually looks messy. Like clearing off the surfaces, the challenge is to keep everything off the fridge and if after a week you still miss it, then feel free to add it back

Day 3: Surfaces

Last week I took a couple of days to clear the surface spaces in our kitchen (and some in the living room). In order to take things off our counter – even the toaster and other appliances, I needed to reorganize and sort through our pantry and other cabinets.

I was really pleased with how our pantry looked after organizing it (sorry, no before picture). See, even extra space!!
