Pregnancy #2: It's a... (week 24)

IMG_20141127_120207

Hello all – it’s been a bit of a quiet month here because we went on a CRUISE!! It was our babymoon before baby #2 comes. We left Ain behind with Grandparents, so it was a nice, relaxing, connecting time with the hubby! I would not do it pregnant again though – my ankles and hands were swollen so bad they were uncomfortable and I couldn’t spend that much time walking around in the heat of Mexico, Grand Cayman Island, and Jamaica. We did have incredible views, though and I LOVED eating all the time!! And we had a room with a balcony!!

Last time I updated you on this pregnancy was when I was 20 weeks along. I haven’t been taking bump pictures at much this pregnancy. I’ve just taken pictures at 14 weeks, 17 weeks, 20 weeks, 21 weeks, and 24 weeks

Pregnancy #2: Week 20

20 weeks - Edited

Hello all! So, I’m definitely not updating you all as much during this pregnancy, as I was with my first pregnancy. Haha. Last time I shared I was just 14 weeks along. I also haven’t been taking as many bump pictures. I’ve just taken pictures at 14 weeks, 17 weeks, and 20 weeks so far.

Week 20

How I feel – Pretty good, pretty normal. Last pregnancy about this time I was having pretty bad round ligament pain. This time I haven’t felt much yet. Maybe it’s still coming…just later.

Total weight gain/loss? – Last pregnancy I had gained 11 pounds by this time. This time around I’ve only gained 6 pounds (although I did start this pregnancy 10 pounds

Introducing Toddler Tuesday + Baby Bump!!

IMG_20140916_154713

If you follow me on Instagram, you MAY have seen the news. Last we on Facebook we announced it, and now we are making it blog-official – WE ARE PREGNANT!!

We are so excited for our new little one, coming at the end of March 2015!!! Today I am officially 14 weeks and starting my second trimester. I’m glad to be past the nausea and aversion to food. Let me tell you, morning sickness is a bit rougher when you have a toddler that you are trying to encourage to eat. The peanut butter smell made me nauseous, but since pb & j is one of the things Ain will eat consistently, I had to put up with it (or feed him something else and Daddy would feed Ain pb &j in the evenings)!

So, I’m not going to update you weekly, like I did last

Ain's Birth Story and How I Realized I am Strong

2013-06-24 07.57.38sm

I am strong because I labored for 27 hours and pushed for an hour and a half on three hours of sleep and without any pain medication.

WARNING: This is a birth story. If reading about childbirth isn’t your thing, you might want to skip this post.

Labor was harder than I expected. Yes, I had done plenty of reading since I wanted to give birth without pain medication and plenty of people had told me it was the hardest thing they had ever done. But going into labor I didn’t want to have a lot of preconceived notions since every labor is different.

I told others I was trying to prepare myself mentally for a long (maybe 24 hour labor?) that I had heard other first time moms have had. But I wasn’t really. I didn’t know how to prepare for the mental and physical

Welcome to the World Ain Levi Pool!

baby Ain

Welcome Baby Boy!

Boy, were you a surprise! Ain Levi Pool (pronounced ‘long A’ and the word ‘in’) was born on Monday, June 24th. His names mean ‘Merciful’ and “Gift of God’. He certainly is a gift. But, he was a surprise as we were expecting a girl (that’s what the 18 week sonogram showed).

He was 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 21 inches long – same size as his Daddy when he was born! It was a LONG labor – 27 hours and 21 of those hours I was in active labor! I am so thankful to have given birth at the New Birth Company in Overland Park and to have the staff there, my doula Brooke, and my husband as great supporters. I definitely could not have done it without them! The hardest part about it was that I

Week 40 of Pregnancy

pregnancy summarycr

So, now I just finished week 40 pregnancy! My due date was June 14th. We’ll see how long Baby Girl wants to stay cozy – I want to see her and hold her!

How I feel

Waiting….waiting….My husband is home all week on Baby leave – even though there is no baby yet. His work needs him back on July 1st, so he started his two weeks off this week. We’ve been doing little things here and there around the house, but I’m relaxing for the most part. We’ve made this waiting time fun. Tuesday we went walking around the Kauffman Memorial Gardens – they are so pretty!!

Appointments

Tuesday and Friday we had appointments with New Birth Company. Baby Girl did very well for both non stress tests and that made me feel good.

I have a very encouraging  support team!! I’ve

Week 39 of Pregnancy

Week 39

This week has gone by fast – I finished week 39 of my pregnancy! Today is my due date!

How I feel

We are ready, ready, ready! As of Sunday last weekend I have felt ready to go into labor. I think in part it’s because my extended family came into town and I just really realized “this is it” – my family is in town for a week – the week leading up to my due date. And now it’s here! I would really like Baby Girl to come before they leave town, but now it’s probably not going to happen. That’s okay – Baby Girl will come at the right time. I was reassured while reading and journaling yesterday that God is preparing me for the kind of labor I specifically will have. I love this quote from my Pregnancy journal:

“As you approach the final moments before

Week 38 of Pregnancy

week 38

Hello all! I finished week 38 of my pregnancy! Now just 6 more days until my due date – but we are as ready as we can be!!

How I feel

I’m satisfied at how ready we are. The nursery is done!! I’ve read the chapter about the first week of a baby’s life in Wonder Weeks and our bags are packed and residing in the car for the most part. I’m excited to see lots of family this weekend!! Next week my plan is just to relax, clean the house some, and maybe work on a hobby.

I went swimming yesterday and that felt good!! I definitely got adjusted to feeling buoyant because as I was stepping out of the pool – I DEFINITELY felt baby weight on my back again!! I probably will visit the swimming pool again next week.

I’ve been still feeling pretty good and sleeping

Romance on a Dime Nursery Reveal!

frame over crib

I am SOO EXCITED to show you the nursery!! ***UPDATE: We had a boy, not a girl! So, here is how I changed it.

It is finally done – all details in place (minus a name banner which I might add later above the changing table).

Nursery Reveal

About six months ago our office resided in the room that is now our Nursery. Here is what it looked like:

And the other side of the room was a MESS!

We first spent time decluttering it, which I show before and after pictures here. Then, with the help of a friend, I painted the room gray and the small dresser white. Here are the befores:
