Say Goodbye to Survival Mode Challenge: Day 4 Use Your Minutes Wisely

As I talked about yesterday, sometimes it seems like days just rush by so quickly (like today!!). If you want to be productive in your day, then take advantage of the tiny blocks up time that pop up throughout your day.

It easy to mindlessly hop onto facebook, or instagram, or other social network for the umptenth time that day. But, think about what you could do with a few extra minutes:

– change the laundry over to the dryer – clean up the dishes in the sink (so they don’t pile up) – tidy a room – go through the mail – file

Say Goodbye to Survival Mode Challenge: Day 3 Create a Successful Morning Routine

Do you feel like your days are “busy” doing something, and yet you are somehow always behind and disorganized? Do you feel like you cannot cram anything more into your hectic days? Do you feel like you’re always running around in circles?

You need a routine. I know for me (when I stick to a routine), my day feels more peaceful and I feel like I know what I’ve accomplished for the day.

How do you come up with a successful morning routine? Follow these steps:

Step 1: Brainstorm a list of things you would like to do each morning, then pare that list down. Take to

Yesterday the challenge was to Just Say No. I wrote a list off all I wanted to accomplish today and then I chose 3 things to cross of my list. This helps us to practice  learning to evaluate our activities and commitments. I chose to cross off:

1) Send out thank-you notes. Yes, these have been on my to-do list for awhile, but today I need to tackle more pressing matters that I have also been putting off.

2) Creating a flyer for our business. My goal is to accomplish this sometime this week. But not today.

3) Being on the computer after 6 p.m. (This idea is from Money Saving

goals

It’s one of my favorite times of the year! I love the fresh start feeling of January 1st. If you’ve read my blog for awhile, you know I LOVE to set goals and plan away!!

I always get overambitious Jan. 1st and set lots of goals. In my mind, I’m okay with not achieving all of the them. I think just the process of thinking through what goals I want to set and then writing them down helps me refocus and remind myself of my priorities. Last year I resolved not to set year goals, but to set goals a few months at a time. I think that DID help me accomplish more of my goals. Although, after June when Ain was born, I didn’t really set any more monthly goals (other than my 30 before 30 project). So I did fizzle out a little – but having

5-day Slow Down Challenge: Focus

5-day Slow Down Challenge: Focus

(original challenge here)

Focus is the key word for both Day 3 and Day 4 of the challenge. Multi-tasking. Does it really work? You can’t give your all to two or more activities at a time. Something is suffering. We end up doing one ore more of the tasks poorly.

We don’t try to multi-task during family time, do we? Or how about trying to work on a blog post while watching a movie. It doesn’t work.

Since this slow down challenge started I have been more diligent about giving my complete focus to Baby Ain while I’m feeding him, or when he starts “talking” to me. He is giving his complete focus to me and he deserves it back, especially when right now he needs the talking time to develop and grow. As I mentioned last time – these

5-day Slow Down Challenge: Savor

1_Busyness98db41

Over the weekend I’ve definitely been savoring the time with family. Savor is the word for the second day of the slow down challenge.

5-day Slow Down Challenge: Savor

Something precious is lost when we get so busy and consumed with what is “urgent” and on the “to-do list”. I love how the saying above puts it, “Busyness robs us of the gift right in front of us”. Life moves much too fast for us to be making light of spending time with family. Who knows what tomorrow might bring?

It’s not easy to slow down, but it is certainly worth it!!

To do: Spend quality time with family. Hold my son and cuddle with him lots!! (because this cuddling stage won’t last forever). I’ve also been stopping what I’m doing if I notice Ain watching me or “talking” to me, and I will make eye

5-day Slow Down Challenge: Notice

5-Notice-570x570

Today is the first day of the slow down challenge. I’m wanting to take in and fully savor these last 5 days before I get back into teaching piano from my maternity leave. Of course, I want to keep life going in as slow of a pace as I can, even once I start teaching.

5-day Slow Down Challenge: Notice

The challenge was to take time to notice the things that other people are overlooking. Find a way to interrupt your busy schedule and enjoy what’s right in front of you.

To do: Spend 15 minutes going for a walk (inside or outside) and as you do try to look around, take note of what you see and write it down. Then, as you go through your day, revisit the list. Remember what you noticed and say a quick thank-you for each item.

What I saw: Photobooks full

Simple Living: On the fridge

after fridge

This month and next I’m working through the 25 Days of Working Towards Simple Living series. You can read everything I’m posting in this series under the tab Simplify. I absolutely LOVED Lorilee’s book Simple Living and took a lot away from it! I would suggest you check it out!

Day 5: On the Fridge

This was a much simpler task I was able to accomplish this week. After clearing off all the surfaces on my kitchen, I was motivated to also clear off the fridge. It has a TON of stuff on it and usually looks messy. Like clearing off the surfaces, the challenge is to keep everything off the fridge and if after a week you still miss it, then feel free to add it back on.

I decided to take off everything except my magnetic spices and calendar. I KNOW I use those on a regular basis and like where

Day 3: Surfaces

Last week I took a couple of days to clear the surface spaces in our kitchen (and some in the living room). In order to take things off our counter – even the toaster and other appliances, I needed to reorganize and sort through our pantry and other cabinets.

I was really pleased with how our pantry looked after organizing it (sorry, no before picture). See, even extra space!!

I’ve been working on Day 3’s assignment: clearing surface spaces in the kitchen. I’ve done a little bit of it, but have not have a big chunk time to clear out cabinet space so I can clear the surface space. Lorilee’s challenge is to keep everything off the counters for 1 week and if after that time you feel yourself missing something, then you can put it back on the counter. I thought I would post about Day 4’s task today and then after tomorrow I will be able to work more on clearing counter space.

Day 4: Incoming

This week I’ve been focusing on what comes
