Simplify Valentine's Day: Frugal Valentine's Day Ideas & 2 printables

We are spending little, if no money for Valentine’s Day this year. Last year was kind of special, since it was the first Valentine’s Day as a married couple (and both of us just happened to see items that we just HAD to get the other). This year, we HAVE to stick to our budget.

Here are 10 Fun Frugal Date Night Ideas

Staying At Home

One thing that can make home more romantic is changing something up about your routine. Either make a change in location (i.e. eating dinner in the basement) or change something up about the room to make it seem new.

Fort Building and Movie Night

Recently, we pushed the two parts of our sectional together into a bed. We watched a movie and fell asleep right there on the couch. It was so fun and comfy that we did it a second night!

So, pick out a movie and watch it in a new environment. Then, make out during the DVD menu music.

Cook a meal together

Find a recipe you’ve never tried and make it together. Be sure to include some dessert!

OR

Order take-out and then splurge on delicious cheeses and add fruit, crackers, and wine.

Exchange Love Letters

We were able to find a deal earlier this week through Cardstore. com for a free personalized Valentine’s Day cards for one another! Even if you can’t get one for free, they are very fun and still a reasonable price! I’ve also heard that TinyPrints was also offering a Free Valentine’s Day card!

Body Shop Date Night & Role Play

This sounds like a hilarious and sexy time! I thought this was too creative NOT to share. You need to read about this creative date. Cher from Love Actually even provides an invitation printable!

20 questions

Write a list of 20 questions to ask each other or find one on the internet.  Go over your answers afterward. Here is a list of 20 questions for married couples.

Going Out

Go see a play

Whether at your local community theater, high school or a big production, there is plenty of entertainment available!

Bookstore Date

I found this idea on The Dating Divas. It sounded like so much fun!! Go to a bookstore with these tasks in hand. Split up, grab each of these items and meet back at a couch to share:

#1 - Visit the COOKING section & chose a recipe that you would like to make for your spouse.
#2 - Visit the MAGAZINE section & find a quiz in a magazine that you and your spouse could do together.
#3 - Visit the CHILDREN’S section & find a book that was a favorite when you were a child or that holds a special memory for you…and read them to each other when you meet back up.

(The Dating Divas has 3 more fun tasks in her posts – check it out!)

Valentine Star-Gazing

If you have a truck or can borrow one, fill the back of the truck with blankets and pillows, cozy up with someone special and watch movies.

OR pack a picnic dinner and head out to the country for some star-gazing. It is an inexpensive and very romantic way to spend your evening with your valentine.

Try a new restaurant

Pick a restaurant neither of you have been and try it out! Who knows, it might be a new favorite! I would suggest checking out Restaurant.com and seeing what restaurants are in your area. Now through February 14th, if you use the promo code SWEETIE, you can get $25 restaurant gift certificates for only $2!! (If you are not sure what Restaurant.com is all about, check out this post.)

Would you like another free printable?

Thanks to My Digital Creations, you can down load a free printable invite for a movie night! If you click on the image, you will be directed to where you can download your invite.

What are you plans for Valentine’s Day? I’d love to hear about what you are doing or what you’ve done in the past!! (I’m linking up to Every Creative Endeavor)

  • We’re planning to camp out in our living room. We received a bunch of camping stuff for our wedding and have not gotten a chance to use it yet. I think it would be great to pair it with the 20 questions idea! Thanks for that suggestion.

    • Thanks a great idea!! My husband and I also received a lot of camping gear for our wedding. We’ve only been camping once….last minute decision and it wasn’t a great night of sleeping. Sleeping on the ground is a lot more uncomfortable than I remember as a kid. We’ll have to bring a mattress next time.

Hope you have a great Valentine’s Day!
