Dry Shampoo
Ever woken up late and discovered you had very little time to shower and get out the door? Or have you ever gotten to bed really late and wish you have 15 extra minutes to snooze in the morning? Well, this tip might save you.
I’ve been hearing a lot about dry shampoo lately. Seems like a great alternative to regular shampooing, though you are not going to substitute it all the time. (I still love taking showers when I can – it’s what wakes me up!)
Buying dry shampoo is a bit pricey, but I found a great tutorial at Petit Elephant and decided to try it myself. It was super easy to make – with only 4 ingredients!
You will need:
- 2 Tbl. Corn Meal
- 2 Tbl. Corn Starch
- 2 Tbl. Baking Soda
- 2 Tbl. Ground Oatmeal
- 1 Jar or salt shaker container
Step 1:
Grind up oatmeal in blender or food processor. You want it to be able to fit through the holes you made or salt shaker, so grind it pretty fine.
Step 2:
Measure all the the ingredients into the container:
Step 3:
Mix.
Step 4:
Showing you my greasy hair for the “before” picture. Yes, I know, it’s really bad – I waited till afternoon to do this project. This is all about getting rid of the grease though!
Step 5:
Sprinkle dry shampoo in your hair. Enough so that you feel like you have really bad dandruff.
Do this over a sink, because it’s a little messy.
Step 6:
Shampoo. Scrub your head like you would if you really had shampoo in your hair. You can even pretend you are singing in the shower! All the ingredients in the dry shampoo are collecting all the oils in your head.
Step 7:
Brush the dry shampoo out. (Use a bristle brush.) Again, good idea to do it over the sink.
Step 8:
Repeat if desired (or needed). Since this was my first time, I didn’t put sprinkle enough dry shampoo on the first time. So I just did it again and was satisfied with the result:
Step 9:
Style it and pat yourself on the back for saving 15 minutes of sleep!!

I’ve never seen this recipe before! In our house we use baby powder…does something similar but takes a bit of time to get it all blended through your hair(sometimes we look rather “old” with our white hair). The advantage is when we’re traveling and the kids don’t want to shower or just don’t have time, it’s a great way to perk up the hair!!

Very true!! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
I’ve never tried this before! What a great idea. I know it’s not healthy to use oil-removing shampoo on your hair every day, so I might need to try this “recipe” sometime! Thanks for sharing!
You may have seen these “awards” floating around the blogging world, but I am officially giving it to you — The Versatile Blogger Award.

Exactly! I thought it would be good to try dry shampoo and use that every once and a while so that I’m not removing the natural oils in my hair on a daily basis.
Thanks for the tip. great recipe.
I always use BABy POWDER.. works well too!
