Welcome back to 31 Days to Building a Cleaning Routine!
Day 30: How to Clean your Mattress
To tell you the truth I hadn’t really thought a lot about cleaning my mattress until I came up with the idea for this series and started researching.
This cleaning routine will help get rid of those bed bugs, dust mites, and dead skin lurking on your mattress. Using baking soda draws up any deep dirt and ick that has been lying on your mattress.
What you will need:
- baking soda
- tupperware with a lid
- kitchen strainer
- essential lavender oil
- vacuum
Step 1:
Remove all bedding and throw it in the wash. I like to have everything fresh!!
Step 2:
Pick up your top mattress and vacuum between the mattress and box spring. I also took the time to rotate my mattress.
Step 3:
Fill a tupperware with 1 cup of baking soda and about 5-6 drops of essential lavender oil (I only had tea tree oil on hand), then put the lid on and shake it up really good.
Step 4:
Gradually transfer the mixture from tupperware to strainer, as you are sprinkling it all over your mattress. Leave it for up to an hour. (This gives me plenty of time to do my laundry for the bed, and clean up a little more.)
Step 5:
Using your vacuum attachment, suck up all the baking soda. Enjoy your clean and great smelling mattress!!
Extra Tip:
If you have any stains on your mattress try using some hydrogen peroxide and blue dawn dish soap and scrubbing. Do this before you sprinkle baking soda on the mattress (because the soda will help completely dry your mattress).
What did you think? Have you ever tried this before?
